I guess, I have been to Jamnagar only thrice in my life. I knew it as a regular city. I didn't know, and actually never noticed that it has a raw natural life also. I didn't expect to see free camels and flamingos out there just near the railway station.
It was early morning time, and our train was about to reach Jamnagar Railway Station. We were all enjoying and were excited to reach our first destination in our Gujarat trip. We just peeped out of the compartment window and couldn't believe ourselves that we were seeing wild camels and flamingos enjoying their natural lives unaffected by any human activity. There was an open land with some water reserves (I'm not sure whether those reserves are natural; the chances are that those are man-made). The wild camels were having their breakfast :) and the flamingos far away were busy in their nose-job :) The sight was completely a pleasure. I have posted the photograph below. Sorry friends, I don't have a zoom/telephoto lens to capture the flamingos full screen.
What a pleasant surprise that must have been. I will enjoy looking at photos of your trip and will be looking forward to more in the future.

ReplyDeleteIt seems that this is the season when we get to see flamingos and other large birds in Gujarat. I have no idea if they are year round.
And Hobo, if you are traveling from Mumbai, this scene is on the right-hand side just about 5 minutes before the railway station

Enjoy your trip! I personally enjoy viewing animals in their natural element. Or perhaps never to see them but for pictures, knowing they are free to roam. I am not a big fan of the zoo.

@ mohinder kumar: Nice to know about your interest. For going to the temple, you need to reach Willingdon Crescent in Jamnagar. You can travel to Willingdon Crescent by local transportation available from most of the arrival-hubs once you arrive in Jamnagar. Once you reach there, ask any shopkeeper where the temple of Kaushalya Mata is [Kaushalya Mata is the same as Vindhyeshwari Mata]. They will guide you. The road leading to the temple is very narrow and somehow dirty. Further on that narrow road, there's a narrower lane to reach the temple.
ReplyDeleteIf you reach the temple and find it locked, return back from the narrower road, and ask the shopkeeper on the conjunction. Keys are with him.

Have you, since, gotten a telephoto lens? How exciting it must have been to see these creatures in the wild - and in such great numbers!! I hope I have some experience like that when I am in India!

@ RNSANE: Yes, I've got a telephoto lens now. In fact the camera is also new, gifted by my brother living in NYC :) If you dare to, you too will get such chances of seeing the real, old style India.
