Kuldhara — A Cursed Village Near Jaisalmer
Kuldhara village near Jaisalmer has a very unique history! It is said that the residents of 84 neighboring villages including Kuldhara vacated the villages overnight around 170 years back!! No one is sure where they have gone, but they are believed to have migrated to a place somewhere near Jodhpur. The residents were Paliwal Brahmans — said to be very intelligent, and residing there for about 500 years. So what made them do such an act? Stories say that the ruler of these villages pounded the Paliwals with heavy taxes and treated them very inhumanly; the ruler was unethical and forceful to them. They had no alternative, but to vacate all the 84 villages overnight and just disappear from the vision and reach of the ruler.
When the Paliwals left the villages, they left a curse that nobody can inhabit the villages ever. Residents of Jaisalmer say that there have been some attempts by some families to stay there, but they did not succeed.

ReplyDeleteIt's a bizzare story! This abondoned place looks so sad now!
ReplyDeleteThat's really an amazing story, Bhavesh. Even if for a different reason, it reminds me of some of the Native American ruins I saw in Arizona over a year ago. Very startling!

ReplyDeletegreetings.
This village looks peaceful now – but we can imagine what it must have been like for all these families to leave it – it is always hard to leave your home. The umbrella and temple look like they were rebuilt. A nice post Bhavesh.
ReplyDeleteLovely remains! I mean, the ruins. You captured them perfectly!
ReplyDeleteQuite an interesting piece of History!
ReplyDeleteIntriguing though that nothing came out of those who flew this region...
This is such a fascinating place - each brick could tell a story.Maybe the filmwalas have shot movies here. I love the rebuilt houses with their earthy colors. But I wouldn 't attempt the steps to the terrace becasue of my arthritis.

ReplyDeleteT s place is very strange. and is full of horror. people say that place is now a village for ghosts. if any person waits here after the sunset, his or her life sunset also had a sunset. Going through this horrible cursed place is really daring.
ReplyDeleteVery Good coverage yes there are many places in India as well outside of India which are deserted as cursed by the habitats, someway or the other some mysterious things may be associated with it, who knows........not mere common belief look forward for more such interesting coverages. ReplyDelete@ Umesh Jawalikar: You felt all! Unbelievable!! Kuldhara is amazing, just as amazingly you felt it. And how come 5 years back you saw the same place in dreams? You must have some extraordinary connection with Kuldhara. It's really surprising! If you wish to share in detail about your dream and the same reality you saw at Kuldhara, feel free.
ReplyDeleteIs it possible to visit this village?
ReplyDelete@ Anonymous: Of course yes!

ReplyDelete@ Pritam Joshi: Thank you :)
ReplyDeleteI also want to share something and I hope you believe. One of my friend started to feel the presence of spirits around 3-4 years back. He felt someone standing outside his house in the garden area and noticed dogs backing at the shadow. When he travels at night, even now, he hears loud screaming voices and strong winds kind of fighting with him. He was very disturbed with what was happening with him but the most shocking moment came when he was travelling in night around 7-8 months back and there was no one on the road as it was late around 1am. That day, he again felt the presence of extraordinary things, strong winds chasing him, fighting with him but that was the day when he was able to clearly understand what the spirits what to say. He told me the next day that he is only able to recognize some of the worlds and they were like 'Kuldhara'.. he said something paliwal..Shraap.. Brahman.. He said they were screaming these words and others which he don't exactly remembers. We didn't knew at that time that there is some haunted story associated with that place but I searched on internet and I can't tell you how i felt when I found all these things true. Another scary thing happened on the next night with him when he was a dark place in his dream, where there was treasure in a dark room and someone was calling him. He also told me that he heard the name Salim Singh. He couldn't gather the courage to check the same on internet, so I did for him and I get frightened to know that someone existed with the same name in the history of Kuldhara. He might have some strong connection with the place. He wanted to visit the place alone but I stopped him. Sometimes, he still feels spirits chasing him while driving in night but the only way that he found to escape with these spirits is visiting temple. Whenever he has to travel at night, he visits a temple before leaving but that's not a permanent solution. Hope, he will be able to solve the mystery and get rid of this.
ReplyDeleteHi Shipra! Kuldhara is one of the most haunted places of India. People say that Bhangarh is haunted but actually it is not. What you have written sounds absolutely amazing. I m a keen researcher of Paranormal and this place has various unsolved mysteries attached to it. Tell your friend to keep a garlic with him as this prevents the paranormal activities. Kindly report the same to Gaurav Tiwari capt.gauravtiwari@gmail.com (CEO and Lead Paranormal Investigator of Indian Paranormal Society)
DeleteThanks for your advice of keeping 'garlic'...
DeleteBut thankfully since last one year, nothing such happened...
THANKS SHIPRA FOR SHARING THE TRUTH
DeleteIs it possible to visit this village?
Delete@ Shipra Saini: What you have written is truly amazing and unbelievable!
ReplyDeletethanks for post its pics..

DeleteHi Shipra,
ReplyDeleteYour friend has a past linkage to the world gone. Get your friend undergo a Regression Therapy with some good Psychoanalyst/Hypnotist. The mystery will be solved soon. He would come to know who he was and why the winds charge him.
Believe it or not!
Now a days, it's peace in his life!
DeleteBut will definitely do if the same happens again...
But with the "Regression Therapy", will the problem solve for ever???
Awesome work Mr. Bhavesh. Keep up the Good Work!
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeletePlease do read my research paper on this village entitled "Kuldhara in Jaisalmer state - Social and Economic Implications of the Remain..." published in the Proceedings of the History Congress, Calcutta, 1995, pp. 312-38. DeleteHi Bhavesh, thanks for all lovely pics and info about kuldhara. My name is Deepak Paliwal and my forefathers are also from kuldhara. I would like to share some info about Paliwals. Paliwals are Mahabhramans and the only Vadic Bharman in the world. The day our forefathers left Kuldhara it was Rakshabandhan and thats why we Paliwals don't celebrate Rakshabandhan.
ReplyDeleteIncase if you would like to share something you can mail me at deepaliwal@gmail.com ..... Thanks
Hi Deepak,
DeleteThanks so much for your valuable contribution. And I did not know that Paliwals do not celebrate Rakshabandhan. It is so sad to find out that such a joyous day is not celebrated due to a serious reason.
Of course, I want to share much about Kuldhara and Paliwals here. Please provide more information with your permission to publish on this page.
Regards,
Bhavesh Chhatbar
Hi Bhavesh , i would like to share more info about Paliwals......
Delete
Thanks
Hi Deepak,
DeleteThat's quite an interesting input. Of course I got it being in Hindi language. Let's spread the information amongst our foreign readers. Do translate and put it again here :)
