Black and white goat

We spotted this beautiful black and white goat on trek to Purandar fort in October 2009. Although the goat is black and white, the background is colorful. The orange spots in the background are the result of blurred focus on a field of marigolds.

Beautiful Indian Peacock

A couple of months back, we went for Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve safaris. Although, we did not spot any tiger, peacocks did not disappoint us. I have got dozens of beautiful peacock photos from there, which I will publish sometime in the future. For now, enjoy this just one beautiful Indian peacock photo.

Motorbiking at Rajmachi

Motorbiking was awesome at Rajmachi although there was no road, not even a drivable trek. It was very difficult, but enjoyable.

The most beautiful winding road

Konkan is just beautiful, and so are the narrow winding village-connecting roads out there. The mornings especially are the most scenic times. I painted this photo on the pixels of my camera on our way from our guest house to a beach. The road winding down going inside tree-covers with 2 rural women walking beside created a perfect photography opportunity. And the photo is the result! I think, this is the most beautiful winding road I have ever photographed!

Shining bronze colored snail, also known as garden snail and Helix aspersa, eating leaves

When on a 3 and a half hour trail to Rajmachi, the green leaves partially eaten by some great number made us curious. Looking keenly, the leaf eating being was spotted — a garden snail [scientifically known as Helix aspersa]. It was shining like bronze. It was not a wet brown shine like of any normal garden snail. The hard spiral shell of the snail was seemingly made of bronze. Well, it may be some other species then!

Last Sunday, we went on an easy trek to Rajmachi. Among many things to macro-photograph, the beautiful Hill Turmeric was presenting itself outstandingly. And here are the 3 photos expressing the beauty of Hill Turmeric.



Hill Turmeric is known by many other names: Raan Halad [रानहळद], Shindalvaan [शिंदळवान], Shindalvaani [शिंदळवानी], Curcuma Pseudomontana, Kachura Flower, Kattu Manjal, Adavi Pasupu. The Hill Turmeric belongs to Zingiberaceae family [Ginger family].

Black Cobra Snake of India

Unexpecting, we spotted a black cobra snake when exploring the historic Chittorgarh. The Johar Sthal [the place where queens used to suicide when fort was captured by Mughals or other enemies] has been filled in now, and is topped by good grass. The poor black cobra snake was wandering around on that grass perhaps unaware initially that people have seen it and are running away from it. I was lucky to catch the attention of the people spotting the snake as a great photographic opportunity. The result is these photographs.



I am not a snake expert, and was unaware that the snake I was running behind to have good pictures of was a cobra snake [extremely venomous]. When I spotted the snake, it was running away from people. I went a few meters ahead of the snake running beside it to get good snake portraits :)



Getting down on the grass, the black cobra snake and me were face to face. After taking a few photographs of the black beauty, I realized that the distance between me and the snake was very less. That was the time I decided to get up on my feet and step back. Just when I got up, the snake too took its head way up from the ground bouncing back and showing me its hood. Seeing the hood, I realized that the snake I was taking photographs of just a few seconds back was actually a black cobra. I was happy with the photographs, and then I was happier :) Thank you dear black cobra to allow me to take such impressive glimpses.
