Ant

Had photographed this ant without a macro lens about 4 years back on Vetal Hill in Pune city; it was monsoon. It was not a tiny ant however. It was about a centimeter long black ant.

  3. Just been informed by a person named Seth Burgess on my Google+ post of this ant that this is actually not an ant at all! He says, "I expect that's not really an ant at all, but something that wants you to think it is. There doesn't seem to be any true constriction like ants have, the head isn't attached like an ant's, and the antennae don't look right. I'd suggest that this is actually a katydid nymph that is using mimicry to give it a bit of protection. (check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Featured_picture_candidates/Macroxiphus_sp_cricket.jpg for example)"

What an awesome input by him. Thanks so much Seth! :)
