Mexican Prickly Poppy [Argemone Mexicana, Satyanashi, सत्यानाशी]
I had pictured this a few months ago in a beautiful place named Baneshwar. My post named Crafted Leaf shows another beauty of Baneshwar.
This plant is considered a weed in India, spread almost all over the country. It's poisonous, but has medicinal use too. I remember my mother said once that this flower's juice, or the juice of its leaves, if applied in the eyes is useful for better vision. Please don't try it because it may need some preparation before applying. I'll have to ask my mom about this, and get important Ayurved information from her knowledge-pool :)

It's a nice flower, it looks like our prickly pear flower (a cactus) except for the stigma which is green.
ReplyDeletePromised I won't try it on my eyes! :)
Very nice weed ;)
ReplyDeleteMight be a weed, but is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty flower, cures of your mother seem very interressants to take advantage of beauty without poisoning itself.
ReplyDeleteIt's very interesting, usually mother's knowledge works very well!
ReplyDeleteAnd this flower is also beautiful!
Léia
beautifully captured!
ReplyDeleteIt's a very nice looking weed. It's interesting that it's used for medicinal purposes. So much of what we have at our footsteps is overlooked. Beautiful photo! :)
ReplyDeleteexcellent - is all I can say :)
ReplyDeleteso beautiful
ReplyDeleteBhavesh: What a beauty, some wild flowers really can send out a special vibe.
ReplyDeleteOh my!! Is this flower so beautiful? All we do is crush the plant as its thorny....
ReplyDeleteThe trivia and the scientific name would surely help to dig further about its medicinal properties. Thanks
Awesome..I never seen this kind of flower before..The leaf looks sharp.
ReplyDeleteHi Bravesh, indeed a beauty... nevermind if it's a weed... See you again ...

A planta pode ser venenosa mas a flor é linda.
ReplyDeleteUma ótima imagem.
Beautiful image! I like the contrast of the delicate petals with the spiny leaves and the shadow in the center.
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful poppy. Great shot.
ReplyDeleteYes, the juice SHOULD be good for the eyes, so that it can be used to heal them if a person gets poked in the eye by those thorns when leaning down to smell the beautiful flower!!!
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is a gorgeous flower...but it would behoove one to be careful not to get too close...that doth look prickly!
ReplyDeleteI'd be interested in what your mother has to say...sometimes those old remedies really work...and sometimes they make things worse...
Yeah .....some of them are medicinal but one should have proper knowledge about it.
ReplyDeleteIt is a pretty flower and if it were not poisonous I wish we Could grow it as a flower here in Nebraska. It is colorful and I am a sucker for flowers.
ReplyDeleteA pretty 'weed', but looks a bit dangerous with the slender pointed foliage.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to imagine anything as pretty as that flower being poisonous. You always find such interesting things around your little world to share with us. Truly enjoy your post and visits.
ReplyDeleteYour mom sounds like a font of useful knowledge!
ReplyDeleteNamaste & Aloha, Friend!

Very beautiful shot of the flower. Very pretty.
ReplyDeleteHi there..ya, its nice to find a plant with some medicinal use and a little color too! This is a good idea for a post cause I think we need to look to natural means for help huh? Thanks & hope you have a great week,
ReplyDeleteRegina-
Very pretty, Bhavesh, weed or not. Isn't it funny that so many pretty flowers, especially the tropical kind, are poisonous. I know in Florida, they plant oleander along the causeways, then put up signs, warning not to use the stems to roast hot dogs, etc. The beautiful yellow alamanda is one of my favorites and it, too, is poisonous!
ReplyDeleteNice pic and nice info....am nt well educated on flowes, but love them....
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flower and explanation. Thanks for sharing with us!
ReplyDeleteMums have so much wisdom, don't they!! A pretty flower, regardless of its poison.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful flower Bhavesh. That's one 'weed' I'd love in my garden lol
ReplyDeleteI liked satyanashi flower very much. Its a weed still I am admirer of its bright yellow colour. Nice photo with nice words. :)
ReplyDeleteBeautifully captured!
ReplyDeleteWow what a nice beautiful serene image. Thanks for sharing. Anna :)
ReplyDeletegood one!
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, yes. We can plant the Mexican poppy here in Los Angeles, and it will spread as far as you let it. Pretty plants will do that -- bamboo, for example.
ReplyDeleteHi Bhavesh! Lovely shot; even for me whose favourite colour isn't the yellow one... ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment at my new blog Blogtrotter Two, now at the Art Deco District in South Beach! Hope to read you there often! Have a great week ahead!!!

ReplyDeleteLovely bloom!
ReplyDeleteYes it's a beautiful flower and It grows in white too. I've only seen the yellow in Florida. I've heard it has medicinal uses but I can not remember what, but it was not the eyes.
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous; thanks for commenting! :)
ReplyDeleteThis plant is a species of Poppy (opium).. Drugs can be made from it..... Drugs such as Cocaine..from the sticky substance got from its fruit
