When we were in Wellington the last year [2014], we had planned to visit many attractions of the city. And one of the many interesting attractions we found was the Wellington Cable Car. We walked from Newtown to the Kelburn station [about 4 kilometers of enjoyable walk], saw the beautiful and historic Wellington Cable Car, visited the Wellington Cable Car Museum, roamed the pretty Botanical Garden, and walked back.
It was in 1902 when the service of Wellington Cable Car started. It is now an important historical public transport that is still running! The station of Wellington Cable Car at Kelburn has the small yet beautiful Wellington Cable Car Museum adjacent to it. It has free entry for all visitors.
Wellington Cable Car Limited [WCCL], the owner of the famous Wellington Cable Car, is a council controlled organisation [CCO] owned by Wellington City Council [WCC].
The current records state that Wellington Cable Car serves more than a million passengers in a year running every 10 minutes between Lambton Quay and Kelburn.

I love that it is bright red and what scenery you get for your money. Thanks for the photos. I was only in Wellington for one day, on board a cruise ship, so I was limited as to what I could see. I should have ridden that cable car!!!
