Mahadji Shinde Chhatri
Mahadji Shinde was the leader of the Maratha empire from 1768 to 1794. He was cremated at this place on 12-February-1794. The monument was created in his memory, and is thus called Mahadji Shinde Chhatri. “Chhatri” literally means umbrella. The monument is a shelter to his cremation place. In the old times, Chhatris were created to display pride. The initial usage of Chhatris was to demarcate funerary places. However, Chhatris later became an element of the building designs. See Mayur Vatika of Jaipur to see how typical Chhatri designs look like.
Mahadji Shinde Chhatri is a landmark of Pune city. Here are some photos from the beautifully architectured monument, which was primarily a temple of Lord Shiva, built by Mahadji Shinde!
Photography is prohibited once you enter the premises. You are normally allowed to take photos as long as you are out of the premises.
Circumhorizontal Arc, Circumhorizon Arc, Lower Symmetric 46° Plate Arc, Fire Rainbow
Fire Rainbow is not technically supposed to be one of the correct names for this. But whatever it may be called correctly: Circumhorizontal Arc, Circumhorizon Arc, Lower Symmetric 46° Plate Arc, the sight is just breathtaking! Keep your eyes wide open whenever you are out — who knows what magical moment you will be able to see!
It looks like an artist's brilliant work. And of course it is! The artist is the creator of everything. Enjoy the photos ☺
